MISSION STATEMENT
The Donald Grant Mitchell Bicentennial Committee seeks “to address the need for a collaborative series of public events & activities to celebrate the 200th birthday of Donald Grant Mitchell, acclaimed 19th century author and landscape architect, whose talents and efforts contributed much to the establishment & design of the New Haven Parks System, greatly enhancing the city’s attractiveness and livability.”
VISION
Donald Grant Mitchell — a 19th century highly-esteemed & popular New Haven-based literary and environmental icon, but now a forgotten historical figure — will once again be recognized, appreciated and celebrated for his visionary foresight, talented creative contributions and unheralded leadership in facilitating greater accessibility, preservation and enhancement of New Haven’s natural attributes with the creation and design of much of the NH Parks system.
